Satoshi Ogawa is a Senior Lecturer at the Malaysia Jeffrey Cheah School of Medical and Health Sciences, Monash University. His academic qualifications include a BSc in Aquatic Biology from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (2000), an MSc in Aquatic Biotechnology from the University of Tokyo (2002), and a PhD in System Physiology from Nippon Medical School, Japan (2006). He joined Monash University Malaysia in 2006 as a Lecturer, was promoted to Senior Research Fellow in 2014, and became a Senior Lecturer in 2017.
Research focuses on neuro-molecular mechanisms of cognitive impairment and drug addiction, utilizing zebrafish models. Key projects include exploring GPR55 as a therapeutic target for depression and chronic pain, developing cancer-on-chip models for drug delivery systems, and investigating miR-153's role in inflammation-induced depression-like phenotypes. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and education.
Teaching commitments include neurophysiology lectures for MBBS students and postgraduate modules on biosafety and animal biotechnology. He has supervised 24 postgraduate students (16 successfully completed) and actively engages students through regular meetings and scientific discussions.
Notable awards include the Jimmie Dodd Memorial Prize (Comparative Endocrinology), Young Investigator Award (2016), and Global BioImaging Travel Grant (2023). Recent publications span neuroimaging, drug development, and zebrafish behavioral models, emphasizing translational research and global health applications.
