Satarupa Dasgupta is an Associate Professor of Communication Arts (Applied Communication) at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she has been teaching since 2018. She is affiliated with the School of Contemporary Arts and teaches courses including Media Literacy, Media and Persuasion, Global Communication Campaigns, Theory and Practice of Health Communication, Communication Research Methods, and Gender, Globalization and Media. Her academic work bridges communication studies, health, and social justice with a focus on marginalized communities.

Research Focus:
Dr. Dasgupta's research centers on health communication with particular attention to marginalized populations including sex workers, transgender communities, and immigrant women. She employs intersectional frameworks to analyze how gender, sexuality, class, and migration status impact health outcomes and access to services. Much of her empirical work is conducted in India, particularly focusing on the Sonagachi red-light district in Kolkata, while also addressing global health communication issues and the experiences of South Asian immigrants in the United States.
Her scholarship examines community-based approaches to health promotion, HIV/AIDS prevention, and empowerment strategies among vulnerable populations. She investigates how communication strategies can address health disparities, stigma, and violence through participatory action research and community engagement. Her work increasingly addresses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on vulnerable groups and technology-mediated intimate partner violence among Generation Z populations.

Dr. Dasgupta's recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on marginalized communities with growing attention to pandemic impacts and digital violence.
