Sarah Waltz is an Associate Professor and Program Director for Music History at the University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music. She has been affiliated with the institution since 2007, teaching courses such as American Music, Women in Music, and topics in 18th-20th century music. She advises undergraduate students pursuing music history degrees, whose independent research on topics like Black opera and Lusitano motets has distinguished the Conservatory.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on interdisciplinary intersections between music, science, and culture, including collaborations with astronomer Woodruff T. Sullivan III on William Herschel’s music and astronomy. She also explores 18th-19th century topics such as George Bridgetower (Beethoven’s Kreutzer sonata dedicatee), musical nationalism, and Scotland’s influence on German Romanticism. Additional areas include Mendelssohn/Schumann circles, English concert life, and music criticism.
