Andrea Folan is an Adjunct Professor in Applied Music at the School of Music, Nazareth University, where she has taught since 2004. Her expertise spans vocal pedagogy, German diction, and early music performance practice. Previously, she served as a voice instructor at Cornell and Syracuse Universities.
- Education: Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Oberlin Conservatory; Bachelor of Arts in German Literature from Oberlin College; Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University; Certificate in Vocology from Ingo Titze’s Summer Vocology Institute.
Her research focuses on early music performance practice, particularly German Lieder and baroque vocal works, informed by her interdisciplinary background in voice science and German literature. She has performed extensively as a soloist in the U.S. and Europe, specializing in repertoire from Hildegard von Bingen to Brahms, with a focus on historical authenticity.
Andrea’s performance practice includes roles in early music operas like Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo and Handel’s Acis and Galatea, collaborating with ensembles such as Folger Consort and Apollo’s Fire. Her recordings of Mendelssohn, Zelter, and Haydn lieder are available on major platforms.
