Dr. Sarah Knudson is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Saskatchewan’s St. Thomas More College. Her work focuses on families, gender, and cultural representations of intimacy, with special attention to relationship advice, disability experiences, and transitions to adulthood. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, an M.A. from the same institution, and a B.Soc.Sci. (Honours) from the University of Ottawa.
Research Grants:
- SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2019-2021): Studied disability and relationship formation in under-resourced communities
- Canadian Home Economics Foundation Grant (2018-2019): Focused on financial education for families
- SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2014-2016): Examined young women’s transitions in Prairie cities
Teaching & Administration:
- Teaches SOC 210/211/340 courses on family structures, gender relations, and marriage sociology
- Chair of the STM Committee for Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good
Her research bridges sociology of families, popular culture analysis, and disability studies. Recent work explores coresidence dynamics (via the ILARN network), mental health access for emerging adults, and financial education reforms. She actively publishes in journals like Journal of Youth Studies and Canadian Review of Sociology. Collaborations include co-editing Committing Sociology: Critical Perspectives on our Social World (2021).
