Sarah Kerboas is a Lecturer in the Department of Social and Historical Anthropology at the University of Toulouse II – Jean Jaurès since 2019, while also pursuing her PhD at LISST (Centre d'Anthropologie Sociale). Her academic work focuses on anthropological approaches to social phenomena in Cambodia, particularly voluntourism and youth culture.
Her educational background includes:
- Master's degree in Social and Historical Anthropology (2019) from University of Toulouse II, with thesis titled "Approach to a humanitarian practice in Cambodia. Voluntourism, a humanitarian experience seen by the inhabitants of the village of SraPoh"
- Bachelor's degree in Human and Social Sciences with honors in Human Sciences, Anthropology, Ethnology (2016) from University of Toulouse II
- DEUG in Sociology with honors, philosophy option (2015) from University of Toulouse II
Kerboas's research interests center around the anthropology of politics, development, and kinship, with a regional focus on Cambodia. Her work examines how voluntourism intersects with local communities and development practices, exploring representations, discourses, and practices of those receiving assistance. She also investigates contemporary Cambodian youth culture, as evidenced by her 2025 publication on Friday nights in Phnom Penh.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on field-based anthropological research in Cambodia, particularly examining youth culture and voluntourism. The work shows methodological sophistication in ethnographic approaches and contributes to broader discussions about development practices and cultural exchange.
As an educator, Kerboas teaches a range of courses from introductory anthropology to advanced methodology, supervising students at multiple levels including Master's students in specialized topics like the anthropology of the body.
She is affiliated with LISST (Interdisciplinary Laboratory for Solidarity, Societies, Territories) and CASE (Centre Asie du Sud-Est), which provide the institutional context for her research on Southeast Asian societies.
