Sarah Joshi is a Teaching Associate Professor in Film and Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School, and Director of the Pittsburgh London Film Programme. She holds a PhD in Humanities and Cultural Studies from the London Consortium, alongside an M.A. in Humanities and a B.A. in Classical Archaeology.
Her research focuses on British cinema (urban horror and class representation) as well as contemporary Hindi cinema's exploration of diasporic relationships and cultural citizenship. Notable works include analyses of werebeasts in Indian horror within the Asian Gothic framework and Partition narratives in film and literature.
Prior roles include Manager at the University of London-Birkbeck Institute for the Moving Image and Associate Director of the Derek Jarman Lab. Her publications address themes like Non-Resident Indian identities, transnational cinema, and moral boundaries in Bollywood.
She maintains academic leadership through her directorship of the Pittsburgh London Film Programme, an interdisciplinary initiative under the University's Centre for International Studies.
