Jeff Heinzl is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Film & Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh, affiliated with the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. Since 2011, they have taught courses in Public and Professional Writing, Composition, and Film and Media Studies in various roles (graduate fellow, part-time faculty, visiting lecturer). They currently advise student groups iGasm Digital Zine and BYO Bollywood, and supervise undergraduate research on queerness in Bollywood and the medical gaze in horror cinema.
Education:
- B.A. in Film & Media Studies from Furman University
- Ph.D. in Film & Media Studies from the University of Pittsburgh
Research Interests: Focus on music video curation, criticism, and hip-hop studies, with notable contributions like their 2022 essay on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America.” Hosts campus events like Video Party & DJ Night: Celebrating Asian Music/Music Videos.
