Professor Sarah Joseph is a leading academic in Human Rights Law at Griffith University, holding positions in Griffith Law School and the Law Futures Centre since 2020. Previously, she was Professor and Director of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law at Monash University (2005–2019). Her expertise spans international and domestic human rights, constitutional law, and trade law.
Education: PhD (Monash University, 2003), LLM (Cambridge University, 1992), and BA/LLB (University of Sydney, 1989). She has taught globally and conducted consultancies in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Iraq.
Research focuses on business and human rights, international covenant interpretation, and media rights. Key areas include the ICCPR, corporate accountability, and pandemic governance. She advises on human rights training for governments and NGOs.
- Funded projects include DFAT human rights training (2022–2025) and Queensland human rights surveys.
- Advises doctoral research on topics like modern slavery in supply chains and asylum seeker protections.
