Sarah Jeffery is a Professor of Recorder specializing in contemporary music at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London, where she is part of the Historical Performance faculty. Internationally recognized as one of the world's foremost promoters of the recorder, Professor Jeffery is renowned for her passionate advocacy of contemporary music for the instrument and has premiered dozens of new works on stages worldwide including hcmf//, Berliner Festspiele, Venice Biennale, and Gaudeamus Festival.
Professor Jeffery's educational background includes:
- Master's degree with cum laude honors from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying under Jorge Isaac and Walter van Hauwe
- Undergraduate studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under Ross Winters and Annabel Knight, graduating with first-class honors
Her research and performance interests center around contemporary music for the recorder, expanding the instrument's repertoire through commissions and premieres of new works. She has established herself as a bridge between historical performance practice and modern musical innovation, regularly collaborating with composers to create new music for the recorder. Her work emphasizes making recorder music accessible to wider audiences through innovative performance formats and digital platforms, as evidenced by her 2018 debut solo CD Constellations which featured a rare authorized arrangement of Steve Reich's Vermont Counterpoint for recorders.

Her educational initiatives have expanded to include sheet music publications, online courses, and multiple live events. Professor Jeffery coordinates the biannual ORDA Teachers Conference in Amsterdam, serves as Honorary Vice President of the Society of Recorder Players in the UK, and contributes to music publications such as Tempo, Primephonic, and Blokfluitist magazine where she was part of the editorial team.
