Sarah Harrisson is a Research Associate in Applied Health Research at Keele University’s School of Medicine. She holds a PhD from Keele University (2018) and has extensive clinical experience as a Specialist Pain Physiotherapist, working in the NHS, British Armed Forces, and private sector since 2000. Her academic background includes a Master’s in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy (UCL, 2006) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health (University of Birmingham, 2013).
Her research focuses on pain management, particularly neuropathic pain and opioid prescribing trends. Key projects include the PROMPPT study (reducing opioid use in persistent pain patients) and investigating gabapentinoid prescribing patterns in UK primary care. Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams, including pharmacists and clinicians.
Teaching spans medical students (MBChB Public Health) and postgraduates (MSc Neuromusculoskeletal Healthcare). She actively contributes to the PROGRESS Summer School on prognosis research.
Publications emphasize epidemiology, clinical trial protocols, and qualitative methods to improve pain management strategies. She is affiliated with the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) and International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).
