Sarah Fishman is John and Rebecca Moores Professor & Associate Chair at the University of Houston's Department of History. She holds a B.A. from Oberlin College (1979), an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Southern California (1980), and a Ph.D. in History from Harvard University (1987). Her research focuses on twentieth-century French history with emphasis on gender, society, and family life.
Dr. Fishman's research explores the social impact of World War II in France, postwar gender relations, and the transformation of family structures. Her interests span European social history, juvenile justice systems, and the evolution of gender roles in modern France.
Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on French social history and gender studies, with recent work examining childhood, delinquency, and postwar societal transformations. Her research combines archival analysis with gender theory to explore everyday life in modern Europe.
