Claudine Anne Giacchetti is a Professor of French and Director of the French Program at the University of Houston’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, within the Modern & Classical Languages department. She leads the summer program in Angers, France, focusing on advanced language, French culture, and art history. Her research spans 19th-century French literature, children’s literature, women’s autobiographies, travel narratives, oral history, and Holocaust studies.
Dr. Giacchetti holds an M.A. from the University of Paris (VIII) and a Ph.D. from Rice University. Her publications include books such as Les Déplacés: la diaspora juive est-européenne dans la France occupée (2018) and Poétique des lieux: enquête sur les mémoires féminins de l’aristocratie française (1789-1848) (2009). Recent articles explore themes like the Comtesse de Ségur’s works, Holocaust survival strategies, and gendered narratives in French literature.
- Awards: 2023 UH Global Faculty Award, 2016 Knighted as Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques, multiple teaching excellence awards.
