Michael Plante is an Associate Professor of Art History at Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts. He holds a Ph.D. from Brown University specializing in Twentieth-Century Art, American Art and Architecture. His research examines postwar American and European art, with particular focus on cultural exchange between the US and France, abstract expressionism, and expatriate artists. His forthcoming book, Paris's Verdict: American Art in France, 1946-58, analyzes artistic and political relationships during the postwar decade.
Research interests extend to popular culture, exhibition history, and representations of gender/sexuality. He teaches courses covering Abstract Expressionism, American Art (1700-1950), Contemporary Art, European Modernism, Gender/Race representations, and Postmodernism.
