Sarah El-Wahsh is a Lecturer in Speech Pathology at the Sydney School of Health Sciences, part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. She holds a PhD (2022) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours 1) in Speech Pathology (2017), graduating with the University Medal, Dean’s Scholar Award, and Speech Pathology Australia’s top student honor. Her expertise lies in adult speech pathology, particularly neurological disorders like motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s, dementia, and multiple sclerosis (MS), alongside aged care, palliative care, and communication neuroscience.
Research interests include progressive neurological diseases, advanced communication skills for healthcare professionals, interdisciplinary care models, and motor speech disorders. She has received multiple awards, including the University of Sydney Teaching Award (2024), RTP Scholarship (2019–2022), and clinical excellence recognitions. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing person-centered care and evidence-based interventions.
Publications focus on communication impairments in MS, including CLAMS/SMS assessment tools and patient-centered strategies. Key articles analyze communication deficits’ impact on employment and cognitive function. Awards highlight both clinical and academic contributions, with travel grants supporting international conference participation.
