Sarah DeYong serves as a Part-Time Lecturer of Voice in the Department of Voice at Oklahoma City University's School of Music, where she provides compassionate holistic vocal training for classical and contemporary singing with emphasis on the intrinsic connection between personal well-being and vocal health.
Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Music Theater from Oklahoma City University (2013) and a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theater Vocal Pedagogy from Boston Conservatory at Berklee (2023). Her thesis "Voice Teaching within a Student's Window of Tolerance: Upholding an Ethical Scope of Practice in a Trauma-Informed Voice Studio" established Trauma-Informed Voice Care (TIVC) as her foundational research framework.
DeYong's primary research investigates TIVC implementation as the ethical minimum standard for voice educators to support student mental health without overstepping into clinical therapy. She presented these findings at the Pan American Vocology Association 2023 Symposium while simultaneously developing community applications through her dementia-friendly choir initiative in Stillwater, Oklahoma, which delivers cognitive and emotional benefits to Alzheimer's patients and caregivers through structured group singing.
As an active performer, she maintains professional engagements with Scissortail Productions and Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park, integrating practical stage experience into her pedagogical approach while expanding therapeutic applications of vocal work in community health contexts.
