Dr. Sarah Carter-Walshaw is a Lecturer in Applied and Interdisciplinary Ethics at the IDEA Centre, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. She holds a BA in Philosophy from Roehampton University, an MA in Health Care Ethics from the IDEA Centre, and a PhD in Bioethics and Medical Jurisprudence from the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the ethical implications of emerging biotechnologies, particularly IVG, artificial wombs, and moral bioenhancement.
She serves as Programme Lead for the BA/MA Biomedical and Health Care Ethics programme and Academic Lead for Dentistry at the IDEA Centre. Her teaching spans ethics in dentistry, chemistry, and biomedical ethics. She supervises MA and PhD students in enhancement ethics and reproductive technologies.
Her work explores the intersection of law, ethics, and emerging technologies, with recent projects funded by Wellcome Trust and AHRC. She contributes to public discourse on IVG governance and moral enhancement debates through academic publications and events.
