Sarah Brownsword is a Lecturer in Primary Education at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Education & Lifelong Learning. She serves as course co-director for the Primary PGCE program, teaching English and Primary Languages components. As the EDI lead for the School of Education, she focuses on equity and diversity initiatives. Her academic journey includes a Doctorate in Education (EdD), researching racially minoritised representation in children's literature, alongside a Master of Arts in Advanced Educational Practice and a Bachelor of Arts in French and German from the University of Leicester.

Her research interests center on race and diversity in education, particularly through children's literature and teacher racial literacy. She actively contributes to UEA's Race Equality steering group and the University of Sanctuary group. Brownsword also co-convenes the English in ITE Special Interest Group for the UK Literacy Association and supports the OU's Reading for Pleasure Ambassadors program.
Her recent publications address anti-racist education, inclusive teacher training, and representation in children's books. Media contributions include discussions on tackling racism in schools and leveraging TikTok for grammar education.
