Sarah Attfield is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney, affiliated with the School of Communication under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Her academic and creative work intertwines themes of working-class identity, social justice, and cultural representation across poetry, media, and literature.
Her research critically examines how working-class experiences are portrayed in global cinema, television, popular music, and literature, challenging dominant narratives that render these groups invisible or stereotypical. She advocates for authentic representation and ethical storytelling, particularly in her analyses of Australian Indigenous literature and underground music scenes like UK grime and Australian hip hop.
Her recent publications highlight trends in interdisciplinary collaborations (e.g., The WoW Project), media pedagogy, and cultural politics. She co-founded The Journal of Working-Class Studies and contributes to Working-Class Perspectives blog, emphasizing public engagement and social advocacy.
