Sarab Al Ani is a Senior Lecturer of Modern Arabic at Yale University since 2009, affiliated with the Yale Arabic Language Program and the Yale Center for Language Study. Her work focuses on innovative language pedagogy, integrating technology and heritage language education. She holds a BA from the University of Baghdad (1998), an MSc from the same institution (2004), an MA from Mercyhurst University (2005), and an MEd from Columbia University (2018).
Her research interests emphasize overcoming challenges in Arabic language learning within U.S. contexts, leveraging technology for effective teaching, and advancing project-based learning (PBLL) frameworks. She is actively involved in developing Open Educational Resources (OER) for heritage language programs and pioneering AI-driven feedback systems in classrooms.
Al Ani has organized numerous initiatives, including the inaugural Arabic Teachers’ Council Summer Institute and collaborative projects like the Heritage Arabic Community-Based Learning Program. She frequently presents at conferences such as NECTFL and ACTFL, sharing insights on AI integration, OER development, and cultural pedagogy.
As an ACTFL-certified tester in Arabic, she contributes to language proficiency assessment standards. Her work bridges traditional pedagogy with modern tools, fostering inclusive and dynamic learning environments for heritage and non-heritage speakers alike.
