Sara Warner is an Associate Professor at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences, affiliated with the Performing and Media Arts department. She serves as Director of Cornell's LGBT Studies Program and holds secondary appointments in Feminist, Gender, and Sexual Studies, American Studies, Africana Studies, and Visual Studies.
- Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University
Her research interrogates the intersection of queer performance, activism, and criminalized intimacy. She analyzes non-normative alliances through genres like camp, performance art, and guerrilla theater, focusing on how marginalized communities form counterpublics.
Warner's publications span LGBTQ+ aesthetics, second wave feminism, and political theater, with a focus on affect theory and theatrical responses to oppression. Her book Acts of Gaiety won ATHE's Outstanding Book Award and was Lambda Finalist.
