Warner’s work examines the interplay between literary form and intellectual history in medieval China, particularly through manuscript culture and the evolution of poetic decorum. Key areas include the Tang dynasty’s literary networks, authorship debates, and the cultural significance of classical texts like the Zhongshuo.
Their publications highlight trends in Tang poetry, manuscript transmission, and the philosophical underpinnings of medieval Chinese literature. Studies often analyze figures like Wang Tong, Wang Wei, and Pei Di, focusing on textual authority, collaborative writing, and symbolic representation.
