Alexei Ditter is a Professor of Chinese at Reed College, affiliated with the Chinese Department under the Division of Literature and Languages. He joined the faculty in 2006 and specializes in medieval Chinese literature, focusing on social and textual practices, place, genre, and memory. His work bridges cultural analysis and historical inquiry, with current projects including a monograph on genre and historical construction in medieval China and a co-edited anthology of entombed epitaph translations.
Education: B.A. from the University of Minnesota, PhD from Princeton University. Research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to medieval Chinese literary culture, including collaborative initiatives like the annual workshop series New Frontiers in the Study of Medieval China, supported by the Tang Research Foundation since 2015.
