Dr. Sara Valdebenito serves as an Assistant Professor in Applied Criminology and Police Management at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, appointed in March 2023. She has taught at Cambridge since 2015 as an Associate Lecturer and was promoted to Research Associate in 2018.
Her academic credentials include:
- MPhil in Criminological Research (2012, with distinction) for her dissertation: "The association of school bullying with drug use and weapon carrying, a systematic review and meta-analysis of cross-sectional studies."
- PhD (2018) supervised by Professor Manuel Eisner (Director of the Violence Research Centre), evaluating school exclusion interventions through randomized controlled trials.
Research focuses on early antisocial behavior prevention, evidence-based crime reduction, school bullying dynamics, and exclusion policies. She implemented Chile's Juvenile Justice System policy (Act 20.084) for youth aged 14-18 and maintains a lecturer position at Alberto Hurtado University's School of Social Sciences. Her work bridges academic research with practical police management and policy design.
Embedded in the Violence Research Centre since 2017 and active in the zIReN network, she develops evidence-based frameworks for juvenile justice and school safety initiatives through international collaborations.
