Nadine Connell

Nadine Connell is an Associate Professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus. She is also a Member of the Griffith Criminology Institute since 2019. Prior to her position at Griffith, she held faculty positions at the University of Texas at Dallas (2011-2019) and Rowan University (2006-2011).

Dr. Connell's research focuses on school crime and school safety, juvenile delinquency, bullying prevention and intervention, ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) prevention, and program and policy interventions. Her work examines the aetiology of school-based violent victimization and perpetration as well as more extreme forms of youth violence, including drug use, weapon carrying, school shootings, and targeted violence. She works directly with schools and communities to implement and evaluate evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies.

Analysis of Dr. Connell's recent publications (2021-2025) reveals a consistent focus on school safety, juvenile delinquency, and prevention strategies. Her work spans multiple methodologies including longitudinal studies, cross-cultural comparisons, systematic reviews, and policy evaluations. Key trends include examining school shootings across decades, bystander intervention in violent situations, cyberbullying prevention, and the implementation of social-emotional learning programs in schools.

Dr. Connell has secured significant research funding from various sources including the US National Institute of Justice, US Office of Justice, Governor's Office of Texas, and the Australian Institute of Criminology. She currently supervises three doctoral students and has held multiple program director and advisor roles at Griffith University. Her professional activities include editorial board memberships and leadership positions in professional organizations such as the Southwestern Association of Criminal Justice and the Division of International Criminology/American Society of Criminology.

Dr. Connell works with the Griffith Criminology Institute, which serves as her research hub.
