Dr Sara Parry is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at Bangor Business School (since August 2016), previously serving as Lecturer in Marketing (2010-2016) and Welsh Teaching Fellow (2008-2010). She holds a PhD in Marketing from Bangor University (2008) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE). Her research focuses on consumer behavior, sustainability, place attachment, and climate change communications, employing qualitative methods like focus groups and netnography.
Key roles include Director of Postgraduate Marketing Programmes overseeing MA Business and Marketing, MBA International Marketing, and MSc Consumer and Digital Marketing Analytics. She also leads the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Academic Programme and the 'Understanding Consumers' Research Group. Past roles included chairing the Athena SWAN Self Assessment Team and leading the 20Twenty Management Project.
Her research spans risky consumption behaviors (alcohol, vaping), sustainable tourism leveraging UNESCO heritage sites, and community engagement strategies. Notable grants include £20,000 for sustainable tourism research in Northwest Wales (2022-2023) and £1,500 for Anglesey Energy Island studies. She serves as Associate Editor for Marketing Intelligence & Planning and holds external roles such as Non-Executive Director at MPW Making Places Work.
Scientific contributions include over 25 peer-reviewed articles in journals like European Journal of Marketing and Journal of Environmental Psychology, with recent work addressing Wales’ climate change strategies and place-based drinking behaviors. Awards include the 2023 Bangor University Teaching Fellowship.
