Sara P. Díaz is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies at Gonzaga University. Her work bridges science, gender, race, and the politics of human difference.
- Education: Ph.D. in Feminist Studies (University of Washington, 2012), M.A. in History (University of Washington, 2007), B.A. in Chemistry & Spanish Language and Literature (1999).
Dr. Díaz employs U.S. third-world feminist theories and feminist cultural studies methods to analyze how women of color scientists navigate intellectual survival strategies. Her research also explores 20th-century U.S. history, feminist research ethics, epistemologies, and environmental justice. Notably, she is working on a book titled Roger Arliner Young: Doing Science from the Back of the Bus, a biography of the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in zoology.
Her publications highlight intersectionality, feminist critiques of science, and the racialized politics of respectability. These works span interdisciplinary fields such as gender studies, history, and cultural studies, often focusing on marginalized scientists' contributions.
