Sara Egge serves as the Claude D. Pottinger Professor of History at Centre College, where she joined the faculty in 2012 and maintains affiliations with both the History Department and Gender Studies program.
Her academic credentials include a B.A. in history and Spanish and B.S. in history education from North Dakota State University, followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. in agricultural history and rural studies from Iowa State University.
Egge's research examines gender, ethnicity, and rurality in the American Midwest alongside historical constructions of citizenship and political representation, with significant intersections in agricultural practices, food systems, hunting traditions, and environmental history. Her work bridges gender studies, political history, and rural sociology through interdisciplinary methodologies.
Her award-winning 2018 monograph established foundational research on Midwestern woman suffrage movements, demonstrating how rural women navigated citizenship frameworks during the suffrage era.
