Sara Mayeux is a Professor of Law and Associate Professor of History at Vanderbilt University Law School. She specializes in twentieth-century U.S. legal history, focusing on criminal law, constitutional law, and the intersection of law and history. Her work examines legal culture, indigent defense systems, and landmark judicial decisions.

Research Highlights: Her book Free Justice (2020) won the Langum Prize and explores the history of public defenders in America. Her 2017 Columbia Law Review article What Gideon Did received the Cromwell Prize.
