Sara Helms McCarty is Associate Dean and Margaret Gage Bush Distinguished Professor of Economics at Samford University’s Brock School of Business. She teaches Principles of Microeconomics, Public Policy, Econometrics, and MBA Microeconomics.
- PhD in Economics (2006), MA in Economics (2002), BA in Economics and Mathematics (1999), all from University of Maryland and St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Her research focuses on applied microeconomics and public policy, with specific interests in volunteering, charitable giving, education policy, public health policy, behavioral economics, and labor economics. She employs both traditional econometric and experimental methods to analyze policy impacts, particularly in developing countries.
Recent publications examine teen pregnancy policies in Africa, religious influences on economic decisions, gradual retirement patterns, and effects of mandated volunteering. She has presented at conferences including the American Economic Association, Economic Science Association, and Germany’s Institute for Studies of Labor (IZA).
