Sara Hanke is a Research Fellow at the University of Stuttgart, affiliated with the Institute of Social Sciences and the Department of Computational Social Science. Her work bridges political science and computational methods to analyze digital political discourse.
- Education: MA in Political Science (Otto-Friedrich University of Bamberg, 2019) and BA in Social Science (University of Stuttgart, 2016).
Research Focus: Sara investigates (right-wing) extremist and populist ideologies, their impact on party competition, and how network structures influence fairness in online political communication. Her methodological toolkit includes natural language processing (NLP) and social network analysis (SNA).
Recent Publications (2024–2025) analyze topics such as:
- Attention dynamics of policy actors on Twitter/X
- Populism detection in legislative contexts (PopBERT)
- Identification of social group targets in political discussions
Projects: She contributes to the Interchange Forum for Reflecting on Intelligent Systems (IRIS3D) and previously worked on the PROTECT project, which explored social media narratives around international protection rights.
