Dr. Sara Goodwin is an Assistant Professor and Director of Sequencing Technologies and Analysis at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), where she is also a Cancer Center member. She holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from The University of Texas at Austin (2013). Her research bridges genomics, sequencing technology development, and biological applications, with notable contributions to PacBio and Oxford Nanopore methodologies. She pioneered strategies for complex genome assembly and cancer genomics, including work on Acute Myeloid Leukemia and colorectal/testicular/breast cancers.
Her research explores:
- Adaptation of long-read sequencing for de novo genome assembly
- Development of pipelines for clinical and agricultural genomics
- Cancer variant discovery through sparse and targeted sequencing
Publication trends show consistent focus on translational genomics and nanopore technology innovations across 5 key domains: cancer biology (40%), genome assembly methods (25%), agricultural genomics (15%), neurogenomics (10%), and microbial genetics (10%).
Dr. Goodwin leads the Sequencing Technologies group at CSHL, collaborating extensively on international genomics consortia including the 1000 Genomes Project.
