Sara Faithfull is a Visiting Professor of Cancer Nursing Practice and Lead for Clinical Innovation at the University of Surrey's School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. She holds a PhD, MSc, and BSc (Hons) in Nursing. Her career spans over three decades in oncology nursing, with a focus on clinical innovation, cancer survivorship, and prostate cancer research. She has led projects funded by institutions like Movember and the EU Horizon 2020 programme, addressing challenges in early diagnosis, treatment side effects, and patient-reported outcomes (PROs).
Research interests include functional health assessment, lifestyle interventions for prostate cancer survivors, and symptom management. She has pioneered methodologies like symptom clustering analysis and PRO-driven clinical decision-making. Notable contributions include the development of the SMaRT group intervention for urinary symptoms and the True NTH community pharmacy-based lifestyle program. Faithfull has held leadership roles in organizations such as the European Oncology Nursing Society (EONS) and the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
Her work has been recognized through awards like the Bob Tiffany Annual Lecture (2011) and the Cancer Research UK Nursing Fellowship (1994). She collaborates internationally with institutions like the Institute of Cancer Research and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). Current projects include the INTERVAL-MCRPC trial on exercise and survival in metastatic prostate cancer and the INEXCA initiative exploring quality of cancer care across Europe.
