Sara E. Wobker

Sara E. Wobker, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor in both the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Urology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also serves as Director of Anatomic Pathology, Director of Genitourinary Pathology, and Director of Surgical Pathology.

Her research focuses on genitourinary malignancies, particularly the molecular characterization of rare variants of bladder carcinoma. She aims to translate histologic findings into molecular discoveries to improve patient care, with a recent emphasis on tumor microenvironment dynamics and immunotherapy response mechanisms in muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

Analysis of her 15 most recent articles (2024-2021) reveals a strong trend in immunotherapy response, molecular subtyping, and diagnostic standardization for genitourinary cancers. Key subfields include FGFR inhibition, TFE3 gene fusions, clinicogenomic features, and pathology protocol optimization.
