Dr. Sara Chadwick is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Gender and Women’s Studies and Psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Psychology and is affiliated with the Institute for Diversity Science. Her research focuses on gender, sexual coercion, and LGBTQ+ health disparities, with a particular interest in 'gray-area' forms of sexual coercion and dating abuse that do not fit traditional definitions of violence.
Her work employs interdisciplinary methods from psychology, gender studies, and public health to explore topics like orgasm coercion, heteronormativity, dating-app facilitated violence, and condom coercion. She examines how these experiences disproportionately impact women, gender/sexual minorities, and contribute to psychological and sexual health disparities.
Current projects include studies on orgasm coercion and intimate partner violence, dating-app sexual violence, and the heteronormativity theory of low sexual desire in heterosexual women. Her research has been published in journals like Archives of Sexual Behavior and Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity.
