Sanjith Gopalakrishnan is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University (since 2020), and Director of the Sustainable Growth Initiative (SGI). He holds a Ph.D. from the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia, and B.S./M.S. degrees in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
His research focuses on sustainable operations management, particularly environmental supply chain management and the intersection of climate policies with business operations. Key interests include supply chain emissions (Scope 3), policy design for carbon reduction, and fairness in multi-agent systems. He has advised organizations like Best Buy Canada and Lululemon, and contributed to urban sustainability through roles on the City of Vancouver’s Transportation Advisory Committee and Green Teams of Canada.
Recent work explores international carbon mitigation transfers (Article 6 of the Paris Agreement), cooperative security in supply chains, and assortment strategies in online retail. His research has been supported by grants from SSHRC, NSERC, MITACS, and FRQSC, totaling over $400,000 in funding as Principal Investigator or Co-Applicant.
Awards include the Sustainability Education Faculty Fellowship (2022) and grants for projects on bike-sharing systems, LNG industry emissions, and traceability technologies. He leads the McGill Sustainable Growth Initiative, fostering interdisciplinary research on sustainability challenges.
