Sanjay Srivastava is Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at SOAS University of London and British Academy Global Professor. His research spans urban anthropology, consumer cultures, masculinity studies, and middle-class formations, primarily focused on South Asia.
Current research projects examine techno-corporate urbanism in Indian megacities, religion's relationship with urban spaces, and gendered violence in urban transformations. He employs ethnographic methods to study how digital governance initiatives interact with urban inequalities in Delhi's National Capital Region.
Professor Srivastava has published extensively including 'Masculinity and the Post-National Indian City' (2022), 'Entangled Urbanism' (2015), and 'Passionate Modernity' (2007). He serves on editorial boards of leading journals including American Ethnologist and Contributions to Indian Sociology. His policy work includes co-authoring the Saksham Report on gendered violence for the Indian government and contributions to UN Women initiatives.
He currently supervises PhD candidates researching borderland mobility in Northeast India and China-Pakistan economic corridor impacts. Srivastava maintains collaborations with ethnographic filmmakers and contributes to public discourse through media publications.
