Dr. Nancy Lindisfarne is a Research Associate in the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at SOAS University of London. Previously an anthropology lecturer at SOAS, she has authored numerous influential works including 'Bartered Brides: Politics, Gender and Marriage in an Afghan Tribal Society', 'Dancing in Damascus', and co-edited collections such as 'Dislocating Masculinity' and 'Masculinities under Neoliberalism'.
Her research spans political anthropology, gender studies, Islamic societies, and Turkish Republicanism, with ethnographic expertise in Afghanistan and the Middle East. Recent publications examine violence, inequality, Afghan political culture, and neoliberalism's impact on masculinities.
Lindisfarne's 2020 book 'Afghan Village Voices', co-authored with Richard Tapper, presents ethnographic insights into Afghan rural life, while 'Thank God We're Secular' explores intersections of gender, Islam and secularism in Turkey. Her work consistently addresses themes of power, resistance, and social transformation.
