Sanja Ranković serves as Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology and Head of Department Council at the Department of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Music Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade. She has taught traditional singing since 1998 and established Serbia's first Department of Traditional Serbian Singing and Playing at the Music school 'Mokranjac' in 1995.
Ranković earned her undergraduate degree (1994) and PhD (2013) from the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade under Professor Mirjana Zakić's mentorship.
Her research focuses on vocal practices within ethnomusicology, specializing in traditional Serbian singing and playing techniques. She examines cultural transmission mechanisms and pedagogical frameworks for folk music preservation, collaborating with Matica srpska and the Faculty of Music Arts on field studies documenting regional vocal traditions across Serbia.
Ranković has received dual recognition from the Association of Music and Ballet Pedagogues of Serbia for exceptional pedagogical contributions (2001 annual, 2006 perennial).
As an advisor, she mentored students to international competition victories including two first prizes and one second prize at Russia's Optina Spring competition (2012), plus laureate status and second prizes at Romania's International Voice Competition (2012, 2016).
She founded the female singing ensemble MOBA (1993), performed with National Ensemble 'KOLO' since 1994, and directed two full-length musical stage productions at Belgrade's National Theatre and in Switzerland. Her international workshops span Switzerland, Germany, France, Canada, and Eastern Europe through Serbian Ethnomusicological Society and ICTM affiliations.
