Sandra Neels is Associate Professor of Dance at Winthrop University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. A former member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (1964-1974), she has choreographed over 300 works across academic and professional settings. Her expertise includes modern and ballet technique, dance appreciation, and choreographic reconstruction.
Professor Neels is an authorized reconstructionist of Merce Cunningham's repertoire, having reconstructed seven works for the Cunningham Trust. She recently restaged solos for the Cunningham Centennial at BAM (2019). Her pedagogical contributions include teaching at institutions like California Institute of the Arts (Faculty of the Year 1983), Harvard Summer Session, and the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts.
