Sandra Laugier's research centers on philosophy of language and ordinary language philosophy, with deep expertise in Wittgenstein, J.L. Austin, and Stanley Cavell. Her work extends to epistemology, gender studies, care ethics, moral perfectionism, and the intersection of democracy with popular culture. She has significantly contributed to applying ordinary language philosophy to contemporary political and ethical issues, particularly in care ethics and democratic theory. As a translator of Stanley Cavell's works, she has bridged American philosophical thought with French audiences. Her research demonstrates how philosophical concepts can address real-world problems, especially regarding ordinary language's role in social and political contexts.
Professor Laugier has received notable recognition for her scholarly contributions:
- Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (2014)
- Member of Academia Europaea (2015)
