Her research integrates textual analysis with archaeological evidence, particularly focusing on historical geography of biblical lands. She has directed numerous Israel Studies programs that combine classroom learning with field archaeology experiences.
Her scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on making ancient biblical texts accessible and relevant to contemporary readers, particularly through her exploration of environmental ethics in biblical perspective.
Professor Richter's notable publications include:
- The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament (IVP, 2008)
- The Deuteronomistic History and the Name Theology: lešakkēn šemô šām in the Bible and the Ancient Near East (de Gruyter, 2002)
- Stewards of Eden: What Scripture Has to Say about Environmentalism and Why it Matters (IVP, 2020)
- A forthcoming commentary on Deuteronomy with Eerdmans Publishers
Her research shows a clear trajectory from technical academic work on Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomistic History toward more accessible works that connect biblical scholarship with contemporary issues like environmental stewardship.
