Sandra Richter, Ph.D., holds the Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. She specializes in Deuteronomy, the Deuteronomistic History, Hebrew language, and the intersection of biblical studies with archaeology and environmental theology. Richter earned her doctorate from Harvard University's Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department and has taught at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wesley Biblical Seminary, and Wheaton College.
Her research focuses on ancient Levantine economies, military methods, and tribal family systems. She has authored influential works such as The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament and is currently writing The Fifth Gospel: A Christian Entry into the Book of Isaiah, alongside a commentary on Deuteronomy for Eerdmans.
Richter is a seasoned speaker, leading archaeological excavations in Israel and presenting at venues like the NIV Translation Meetings (2024) and the Biblical Studies Lecture Series at Beeson Divinity School (2025). She emphasizes environmental stewardship through biblical frameworks, contributing to curricula with Seedbed and HarperCollins.
