Catherine McDowell is a Professor of Old Testament at the School of Ministry, Palm Beach Atlantic University, with a focus on Biblical Hebrew, Hebrew exegesis, and ancient Near Eastern studies. She previously held faculty positions at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (Charlotte and Boston campuses), Wheaton College, and served as a graduate teaching fellow at Harvard University.

Her research explores the intersection of Mesopotamian/Egyptian rituals with Genesis narratives, authoring The Image of God in the Garden of Eden (Eisenbrauns) and study notes for 1-2 Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles in the ESV Archaeological Study Bible (ECPA Book of the Year Award winner). She also co-authored The Rewards of Learning Greek and Hebrew (2021) and is currently writing a book on idolatry for IVP's Essential Studies in Biblical Theology series.
Dr. McDowell's awards include Harvard's Certificate of Distinction in Teaching and multiple grants for academic development. She serves part-time at Séminaire Théologique Mondelus in Haiti and has participated in archaeological excavations in Israel.
