Sandra Klein

Prof. Dr. Sandra Klein is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Institute of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Department of Pharmacy, University of Greifswald, Germany, where she has worked since 2010. Her research focuses on patient-specific drug delivery systems for pediatric, geriatric, and gastrointestinal-impaired populations, with an emphasis on biorelevant in vitro methods and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models.

• Education: Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Pharmacy from the University of Frankfurt, Germany; postdoctoral fellowship at Eastman Chemical Company, Kingsport, TN, USA.

Her work spans formulation strategies for poorly soluble drugs, taste-masking techniques, and controlled-release systems. She also develops biorelevant in vitro models for subcutaneous, vaginal, rectal, and long-acting injectable formulations, alongside predictive release testing frameworks.

Her laboratory utilizes the Dissolution Online System, funded by ERDF, to enable real-time, high-resolution in vitro release testing for adult and Parkinson's patient populations. Key collaborations include the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), European Paediatric Formulation Initiative (EuPFI), and conect4children (c4c).
