Prof. Dr. Werner Weitschies is a full professor at the Institute of Pharmacy, University of Greifswald, heading the Department of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology since 1998. He studied pharmacy and earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1990, followed by industrial research at Schering AG and the Free University of Berlin.

- Gastrointestinal behavior of dosage forms
- In vivo imaging of drug delivery systems
- Development of biorelevant dissolution models
- Oral formulation development
- Transporter systems in the GI tract
- Intraocular, intramuscular, and subcutaneous drug delivery
- 3D-printed implants
His group is currently funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to develop ultrafast analytical systems and a biorelevant release test device (BRD 700) for predictive characterization of pharmaceuticals, aiming to replace in vivo studies with validated in vitro methods.
