Jette Jacobsen serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in Physiological Pharmaceutics. Her research focuses on developing advanced drug delivery systems for oral mucosal administration, with particular emphasis on understanding absorption barriers and creating biorelevant testing methods.
- PhD (pharm.), University of Copenhagen, 1995
- MSc (pharm.), University of Copenhagen, 1990
- Apoteksassistent, 1986
Professor Jacobsen's research program centers on oromucosal drug delivery systems, with three primary thrusts: (1) mechanistic understanding of bioadhesion, drug release, and absorption processes; (2) development of biorelevant in vitro methods including cell culture and modified Ussing chamber techniques for studying drug permeability and toxicity; and (3) formulation of aqueous gels for treating mucosal disorders. Her work bridges fundamental science with practical applications in pharmaceutical development.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent focus on buccal and gastrointestinal drug delivery systems, with increasing emphasis on biorelevant testing methods and physiological barriers. Her research spans from fundamental studies of mucus properties to applied formulation development for peptide delivery and ocular therapeutics. The interdisciplinary nature of her work connects pharmaceutical technology with physiology, biochemistry, and clinical applications.
Professor Jacobsen has maintained continuous academic employment since 1995, progressing from PhD student to her current position as Associate Professor. She has supervised numerous research projects and contributed to educational materials in pharmacy, including co-editing the 5th edition of 'Almen Farmaci.' Her research collaborations span multiple departments and institutions, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of her work in physiological pharmaceutics.
