Sandra Cassotta is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of International, Environmental and Energy Law, and holds adjunct positions at Western Sydney University's School of Law. She concurrently serves as a Non-resident Research Fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) in Stockholm and a Fellow at Sustainability College Bruges (SCB). Her roles include membership in the Finnish Governmental Panel of Assessment for environmental law and economics projects, and expertise contributions to the European Commission (DG Clima Adaptation) and European Parliament.

Her interdisciplinary research focuses on environmental governance in polar regions, climate policy effectiveness, and the intersection of law with economics/geopolitics. Specializations include Arctic Ocean security, UNCLOS applications, and the legal frameworks governing energy transitions and environmental liability. She co-leads the Sino-Arctic Research Programme at ISDP and contributed as a Lead Author on environmental governance for the IPCC's Arctic/Antarctic assessments.
Cassotta’s professional background includes 14 years in public/private sectors, notably as a media officer at the International Olive Oil Council (UN-linked), producing press releases and official briefings for intergovernmental meetings.
