Dr. Andrey Todorov is a Researcher at the Department of International and European Law, Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance, Utrecht University. He joined the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) in June 2023. His work focuses on Arctic and Antarctic governance, maritime law, and environmental regulation of polar shipping.
- Doctoral degree from Moscow State Linguistic University (2012) on maritime piracy
- Prior affiliations include the Primakov Institute (Russia), Harvard Kennedy School (USA), and Fletcher School (USA)
Research Themes:
- Arctic security dynamics
- Ship-borne tourism impacts in Antarctica
- Environmental stewardship frameworks under the Antarctic Treaty System
- Underwater noise pollution from tourism vessels
Current Project: Member of the ANTARC-SHIP project (2023-2027), analyzing Antarctic tourism governance through four work packages including intergovernmental regulation and gateway city impacts.
