Sandra Bell is a Professor of English at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, joining the faculty in 2000. She specializes in 16th- and 17th-century literature, drama, and Shakespearean pedagogy. Her teaching focuses on poetry, drama, and practical theatre collaborations with local communities. She has led four UNB Travel Study programs to London.
She holds a PhD and has received numerous teaching awards, including the Allan P. Stuart Award (2006), Neil Scott Instructional Leadership Award, and the 2022 Atlantic Association of Universities Distinguished Teaching Award. Her research includes co-editing an anthology of 16th-century prose and verse for Broadview Press and presenting on James VI/Charles I and Mary Stuart.
Beyond academia, Bell actively engages in Saint John’s theatre scene, co-founding the Fundy FRINGE Festival (2013) and receiving the 2017 Originals Arts Award in Theatre. She has directed, written, and acted in local productions, merging her academic and artistic pursuits.
